Periodontal Health

inflamed gums

Many patients have heard of gingivitis or gum inflammation, but fewer know about periodontitis, which is a more advanced form of gum disease and requires treatment by a dental professional using advanced periodontal methods. Good hygiene can prevent gum disease, but sometimes periodontal treatment is needed to address the condition.

What are the symptoms of periodontitis?

There are several ways to tell if you're managing your oral health properly. If you neglect your teeth or have a condition that increases the risk of periodontal disease, you might notice some of these symptoms in your teeth.

  • Swelling in the gums

  • Persistent bad breath

  • Teeth that shift in the mouth

  • Pockets forming between the teeth & gums

  • Bleeding while brushing & flossing

If you notice any issues with your teeth, visiting a dentist can help address these problems before they get worse.

How do you treat periodontitis?

Periodontal disease can be prevented by regularly brushing and flossing your teeth. However, this only works in the early stages of gum disease. Once it becomes more severe, your dentist will need to use other methods to treat the problem.

Dr. Singh will perform a thorough cleaning to remove plaque and bacteria from the mouth. If this does not resolve the issue, your dentist may suggest a more invasive treatment to properly address it.
